POW portrait

a detail

George Pratt at the Illustration Academy did an amazing impromptu demo (at my desk! OMG!) of Bert Silverman's  watercolor technique, in which the whole studio swarmed around with in about 5 seconds of the demo comensing. of course I was waving my arms like a madman behind his back, comunicating some crazy magic was about to happen, haha. it was pretty amazing, it was the technique George used for his incredible graphic novel, Enemy Ace: War Idyll. Well, this little experiment of mine was not so breath-taking. I was holding my breath most of teh time. I cant imagine doing a whole graphic novel this way! it took me 3 hours and this is only 4"x4.5"!!!... But I did enjoy it, I dont think I let the medium really do its thing, maybe I should try a bigger painting next time.  Anyway, George Pratt, your my hero (I LOVE YOU!!!)..
PEACE!
Will

yo, it's cool to see someone try out that technique. enemy ace has some unbelievable panels. looks like a rewarding process. when george paints this way do you know if he sizes the paper with white acrylic or gouache before the watercolor? i'll see you soon man.

yeah, He puts down a layer of chinese white watercolor first. I think he said it's becasue he can get a better effect when pulling out the color back to the white. and you have to use strathmore series 500 plate bristol.

Hey Will!

Great stuff you have here! I'm guessing the illustration academy is awesome. I've realized I'm really going more towards the design way. Thanks about the internships- but I'm looking for a new gig/J-O-B... :( But it's all good. Yeah edit the blog! I know you can make it look nice. Great watercolors by the way.
