Just got back home from the Illustration Academy, it was amazing, best thing I have ever done,one of the best experiences of my life.  really looking to go a second time in the future. special thanks to Francis for letting us crash at his place the day before the academy started. enjoy some pics and some sketchbook pages for now, it's likely there will be some more pics to come.  laterz,     WG

Mortal Kombat at Midnight

Tis tradition in studio 2, every sunday night at midnight at the illustration academy, the night before critique, Mortal Kombat dance off ensues. I decided to finally film it. enjoy.

IllustrationAcademy thus far (amazing)

I've been at the illustration academy for about 5 weeks now and told myself that I would update here regularly, one of a few goals that hasn't happened (like running in the morning and eating right [ i've been going on barely 2 meals a day... cause sometimes I just forget to eat...] ) But nonetheless, it's mind blowing, and many many other adjectives I don't feel like typing. But everyone was right, in that you get your money's worth in the first week! unbelievable, I know, but it's true. 2 weeks left, I wish it took up the whole summer. Meeting some amazing people and seeing some amazing talent. Here's some sketchbook pages from while I've been here and some of my pieces I've completed and studies I've done up. PEACE!


Chris Payne's assignment, a conversation between two people from the sternum up, so I got a umpire and manager yelling at each other. it was alot of fun, mostly because I had it planned out from thumbnail to finish and had a few happy accidents that helped it out alot. I really need to repaint the color of the hands though.


Gary Kelly's assignment, everyone drew a color, I got blue and went with Babe the Blue Ox, folk legend Paul Bunyan's pet ox ink and marker transfer for the log pile pattern. the drawing didn't need the color, but it did for the assignment, and cause Babe is blue. I left the color flat, with a tad of texture, and let the drawing speak for itself.

quick oil study, 1.5 hours. George was sharing aboutJeff Jones and how he learned to paint, by using viridian green, burnt sienna and white, he was painting in value and temperture, and progressively he brought in more colors to his pallette. it was a really awesome exercise, I'm going t ogo back into it. needs some red, and the strokes are a little too whispy, need some hard lines and such.
