Plenty to be thankful for...

Hope everyone has a splendid Thanksgiving day. This is a portrait of my pal Leslie, watercolor on Yupo paper, a experiment that I thought turned alright, except for that ear, haha. oh well.I can actually still go in take it out and repaint it back in there. This is how I had always hoped to paint with watercolor, pushing and pulling, adding ad subtracting with just the right amount of the unexpected. I've done a few more yupo/watercolor portraits that I'll soon post, but it's time to eat some turkey, peace!
Really enjoyed experimenting with the hair, I didn't just want to sit and do every hair, and found when I wiped away to start over, I wouldn't get all the paint off and thought the streaks had some nice energy to them. really enjoyed the whole process overall, which was really nothing; just going straight in with watercolor. It helped seeing George Pratt experimenting with it for the first time also over the summer. I went for more of the impression of light and form and less of a representation as far as teh paint strokes go (at least where I could get away with it), such as in the shadow area and wherever else. For the most part, it felt fairly unconscious, and alot of fun.

I've never looked so good. I can't wait to see what else you do with this technique. Killer piece, happy thanksgiving!

awesome piece man. The textures are really fresh and it doesn't look over worked at all (I have a problem with over working things like that). There's a lot of things going on in the details that show you were having fun. I'm glad you tapped into that delightful unconscious zone. It shows :]
